The role of alcohol and addiction specialists in substance use care
Alcohol consumption is widespread in our society and causes serious health problems. Specialized support can help reduce harm and improve care for people struggling with alcohol use. However, access to this support remains limited, leading to a significant treatment gap. In a new advisory report, the SHC highlights the importance of recognizing experts in the care of individuals with alcohol and/or other substance use disorders.
SHC Recommendations:
- Official recognition of the titles alcohol specialist and addiction expert.
- Integration of addiction care into the basic training of healthcare professionals.
- Financial support and reimbursement for consultations.
- A destigmatizing and accessible approach.
Only available in Dutch and French.
Now that Tournée Minérale has concluded, it's the perfect moment to reflect on alcohol consumption and the need for specialized care providers. Read the full advisory report and find out how we can work together to improve care for those struggling with alcohol use.
