Basic vaccination schedule (2025)
The basic vaccination schedule for infants and children has become increasingly complex in recent decades. The increase in vaccine preventable diseases as well as and the potential introduction of new vaccines make it increasingly difficult to vaccinate children in their first two years of life.
Based on the latest scientific data, the Superior Health Council has revised its previous recommendations to simplify the vaccination schedule while aiming for optimal protection.
The Council now recommends:
- reducing the hexavalent vaccination (poliomyelitis, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b and hepatitis B) to a 2+1 schedule;
- administering the first hexavalent booster alongside the first dose of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine;
- and administering four doses of the PCV20 pneumococcal vaccine, with the final dose given at the same time as the meningococcal ACWY vaccine.
The vaccination schedule also includes general recommendations on vaccines for adults aimed at providing an optimal protection throughout life within an integrated immunisation framework.
This version replaces advisory report 9606 ‘Basic immunisation schedule’ from 2021.
This advisory report is only available in Dutch and French.
